In this workshop, we will dive into the world of Costumes for Film and Television by learning the importance of the various roles within the Costume Department, exploring how characters are developed through Costume Design, the importance of conducting accurate period research, and the fundamental skills necessary to be a Costumer.
Discussions and class activities to include:
• Key Players of the Costume Department: Introduction to all the players in the Costume Department and their roles.
• The Visual Art of Costume Design: How a character is developed through the art of visual storytelling. Explore ways to draw the inspiration necessary to develop a character and get a sneak peek into a character's closet.
• Research: How to properly conduct accurate period research and create mood boards. References and other means of inspiration.
• The Art of Costuming: Open discussion on the skills necessary to be an on Set Costumer and all of your basic kit essentials.
• Set Costumer Quick Activity: You will learn how to take proper body measurements, how to repair a button, and how to perform a basic running stitch.
Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast, fashion designer, fashion stylist, or currently studying fashion and would like to learn how to develop your skills and land your first job in the costume department, this workshop is for you!
