Intro to Command Line Computing - Talk
Command line computing (e.g. in bash) seems incredibly user unfriendly with its hidden states, obscure inerfaces, and bizarre syntax. Thus the sudden need to learn command line interfaces can come as a shock to researchers forced to use it for scientific computing tasks. In this talk we'll explore the historical origin of the command line as teletype computing, discuss some strategies to cope with its less ergonomic aspects, and hopefully gain an appreciation for some of its advantages.
