About this Event
12 March 2026, 2.00-4.00 pm
Venue: Western Lecture Theatre (G.01)
Join us for an inspiring event featuring a panel of accomplished speakers from the public, private, and academic sectors, who will share their personal experiences and reflections on building careers in economics.
During this session, speakers will discuss their career journeys, highlighting key decisions, challenges, and turning points that have shaped their professional paths. They will reflect on their experiences of working as economists in different settings and share practical insights, advice, and lessons learned along the way. The session will provide students with an honest perspective on what it means to develop a career in economics and the skills and experiences that have supported their progression.
This event is particularly focused on inspiring and encouraging students from underrepresented groups in economics, including women and students from minority backgrounds. By bringing together speakers with diverse professional experiences, the event seeks to provide visible role models, build confidence, and broaden perceptions of what a career in economics can look like.
The aim of the event is to showcase the wide range of career paths available to economists by highlighting experiences from across the public sector, private sector, and academia. Through open discussion and shared reflections, the event will demonstrate how economics can lead to impactful and rewarding careers both within and beyond academia.
The event is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate Economics students at the University of Leeds. This event is sponsored by the Economics Department at the University of Leeds and is organised in collaboration with the Royal Economic Society UK Women in Economics Network (UK WEN).
Event organisers: Dr Irene Mussio, Dr Bianca Orsi, Dr Esra Ugurlu (University of Leeds), and Dr Maria Psyllou (Imperial College London and UK WEN).
