About this Event

Join us for the Indigenous Art Journey presented by Shawish Market; featuring a curated Indigenous Art Gallery, Vendor Marketplace, Beading Workshops, and Free Coffee, Tea & Pastries.

This community event is FREE to attend — but we invite you to consider making a donation when reserving your ticket. Your support helps keep Shawish Market accessible with zero vendor fees for Indigenous artists, covers event costs, and ensures we can continue uplifting authentic Indigenous creators across Turtle Island.

Schedule:

10AM–2PM: General Admission (FREE or by donation) – Includes access to the Indigenous Art Journey exhibit, vendor marketplace, and free coffee, tea & pastries. Donations are welcome and appreciated!

11AM–1 PM: Beading Workshop #1 (Minimum $10 Donation) – To help ensure those who sign up attend, workshop tickets are set at a minimum $10 donation. Your contribution reserves your seat, materials, and supports the artists, Joy Rogers from Karahkwa Jewelry. Also includes access to the Indigenous Art Journey exhibit, vendor marketplace, and free coffee, tea & pastries. Workshops are open to both Indigenous & Non-Indigenous participants.

Indigenous Art Exhibit

Info: Come explore the Indigenous art exhibit and learn about the artists, cultures, stories, and histories behind each piece. After walking through the exhibit, meet the 20 artists who have contributed their work and shop their handmade creations. Open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members. Free coffee and pastries starting at 11am.

Beading Workshop #1 from Karahkwa Jewelry
Host: Joy Rogers

Info: Join us for a creative workshop where you’ll learn the art of Indigenous beadwork and craft a beautiful wristlet keychain featuring inspired by the Strawberry. Strawberries hold deep cultural significance for many Indigenous peoples, symbolizing themes of growth and community. In this hands-on session, you’ll learn the techniques wrapped beading, as well as connect with the rich traditions of Indigenous art.

Beading Workshop #2 from Beadwork by Saga
Host: Saga Kwandibenz

Info: Join us for a hands-on workshop with Beadwork by Saga, led by artist Saga Kwandibenz, where participants will learn the traditional art of porcupine quillwork. In this session, Saga will guide you through the process of preparing and working with porcupine quills to create your own small decorative piece while sharing the cultural teachings and history behind this Indigenous art form.
Porcupine quillwork is one of the oldest decorative arts practiced by Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island and carries deep cultural meaning connected to land, animals, and community. During the workshop, participants will learn foundational quillwork techniques and gain insight into how these traditions have been passed down through generations.
