Ali Vowles hosts her very own chat show, which includes chatting to characters from around Bristol’s harbourside with music and fun aboard the convivial MV Balmoral moored outside the MShed.
On the sofa on June 21st we'll be joined by two guests; Trish Johnson, Bridge Master on Clifton Suspension Bridge and Donna Speed, CEO of We the Curious. Expect an entertaining evening with insights from those whose venues overlook and touch upon the harbour.
Gangplank open at 7pm and guests will be introduced at 7.30pm. There will be an interval followed by a Q& A where you have the opportunity to quiz the guests followed by live music. Snacks will be available at the MV Balmoral bar and you are welcome to order food to be delvered to the MV Balmoral after 8.45pm.
Ali is a multi-skilled freelance journalist, presenter, and facilitator who loves meeting people and uncovering their stories. With over 30 years of experience at the BBC, she is now excited to apply her expertise in the commercial and charity sectors. Hosting events and conferences for a diverse range of clients, including universities, charities, and businesses, she also conducts interviews with keynote speakers.
Thriving on the challenge of immersing herself in a topic for TV and radio, she adeptly grasps the heart of a story. She puts people at ease and her warmth and friendliness brings out the best in others.
Trish Johnson is a chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
She has been involved in various aspects of engineering throughout her career. She has worked in a Consultancy practice managing a number of Highways and Transportation offices, promoted Civil Engineering as Regional Director for the ICE, and maintained bridges as Head of Maintenance at the Severn River Crossing.
Seven years ago, she took up the enviable role of Bridge Master on the Clifton Suspension Bridge. This high-profile role covers the major projects and maintenance of the bridge, the managing of the business including the visitor centre and the engagement with the public and Trustees.
She is a keen advocate of engineering and sits on the University of the West of England Advisory Board for Civil Engineering and is a ‘Women Like Me’ Mentor.
Donna joined We The Curious (previously At-Bristol) at the exciting time of its launch in 2000. She feels incredibly privileged to have been part of the journey at We the Curious and its fantastic work, every step of the way. Her day-to-day involves leading We The Curious and developing the strategic direction for the organisation, which is implemented by their brilliant teams. In addition to her role in We The Curious, she sits on a number of Boards including Association of Science and Discovery Centres as Deputy Chair, Bath Preservation Trust, Guild of Guardians, BCC International Strategy, BCC Economy Board and National Trust’s Collections and Interpretation Advisory Group.
