Who is this workshop for? : Beginner Workshops are workshops open to anyone interested in developing their performance skills. There is no experience necessary and as such are open to anyone seriously wishing to improve or develop their craft. Beginner workshops are for participants aged 18 or over.

Discover your inner Mischief Maker and explore the joy of improvisation with Mischief’s 6-week Improvisation for Beginners course.
Designed for those new to the art of making it up as you go along, this fun and supportive course teaches the foundations of thinking on your feet, building confidence, and working collaboratively to create engaging scenes and stories.
Over the 6 weeks, participants will explore the core pillars of improvisation in a welcoming space that encourages imagination, play, and plenty of laughter.
Who is this workshop for?
Beginner Workshops are open to anyone interested in developing their performance skills. No prior experience is required, just a genuine interest in learning and exploring. These workshops are suitable for adults aged 18+.

This course is ideal for:
- Amateur actors and enthusiasts looking to learn the basics of improvisation
- Anyone interested in building creativity, confidence and spontaneity
Please note:
- All participants must be 18+ at the start of the course.

About the Instructor
Harry is a founding member of Mischief Theatre and co-creator & regular performer in Olivier nominated ‘Mischief Movie Night’. He has over a decade’s experience teaching at some of the UK’s leading drama schools, schools and youth theatres and leading corporate workshops as well as leading Mischief’s improvisation workshops.
Harry taught improvisation at LAMDA between 2019-2023 and also teaches improvisation at Arts Ed and Associated Studios as well as the Cambridge Acting Academy. Harry has taught at Drama Studio London and for flair box and Scoot Theatre, west end stage tours and Just add milk. Harry also teaches corporate workshops in improvisation and creativity including recently for Boots.
Harry is a graduate of the RADA BA in acting and the LAMDA foundation course and has performed on the West End and Broadway and for NT live as well as having film and tv credits which include Wallander, Endeavour, Cuckoo and Skyfall.

WEEK 1 - 14/1/26 - The Pillars of Improvisation
Host: Harry Kershaw
Info: Listen, accept, commit. Intro into working together to build a story in the most simple and non scary way. This will be based on listening to each other, accepting each other's offers and building trust by committing to those offers.

WEEK 2 -21/1/26 - Exploration of 'the scene'
Host: Harry Kershaw
Info: First building blocks of scene work; learning about the circle of expectation and building scenes by engaging with your scene partner. We aim to remove the need to “generate” anything and encourage playful team work. Making clear, simple offers is always the way to go.

WEEK 3 - 28/1/26 - Mining the offer
Host: Harry Kershaw
Info: Mining the offer; using the work from week two we learn how to build on the first offer that is made and not feel the need to keep generating content.

WEEK 4 - 4/2/26 - Emotional Commitment
Host: Harry Kewshaw
Info: Emotional commitment and emotional change; all good stories come from an emotional connection with the characters. This week will teach the value of emotional connections within scenes and stories, it will also show how comedy can easily be built out of emotional commitment.

WEEK 5 - 11/2/26- Opening Scenes
Host: Harry Kershaw
Info: Continue to build on the themes from the first four weeks. Using exercises that will encourage the practice of: listen, accept, commit, emotional change, mining the offer and making clear simple choices. We will also introduce basic story structure and improvise “opening scenes”.

WEEK 6 -18/2/26 - Building a story
Host: Harry Kershaw
Info: Playing the scene and building the story. At this point we will aim to start building the opening 15/20 mins of a longer story using everything we have learnt so far. This will likely be guided by the instructor.
