About the event
Designed for aspiring and practicing writers and actors, but made for everyone, participants are led through a lite physical warm-up, improv games, and scene study using scripted prompts. This fun casual workshop is for anyone who wants to strengthen skills and discover tools for building characters and infusing life into a scene in an energizing space designed for exploration, joy, word-play, and creativity. IMPROV EXPLO! is a two hour workshop and participants are invited to stay from 9-10pm as audience members or performers for a special experimental performance.
Workshop Leader
Sara Judge is a freelance writer, director, and coach offering creative workshops for children and adults.
A New Jersey native, Sara studied Psychology and Theater Arts at Rutgers University. She has lived in New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco performing her original songs onstage, and working in indie theater as an actor, director, writer and producer. Her interest in bridging the communities of songwriters and playwrights in San Francisco led to her long-running successful serial theater shows Mixtape and Music Scene where live music and short plays were woven into an immersive production.
In addition to creating and producing three original runs of the theater series, MIXTAPE, at PianoFight, Sara recently graduated with a
Masters of Fine Arts in Writing from California College of the Arts.
Combining art forms and artistic communities that rarely have an opportunity to collaborate--singer-songwriters, playwrights, and theater artists--Sara has been a leader in supporting and directing new work in Philadelphia and San Francisco for 15 years.
"My passions call for me to continuously explore new ways of engaging--with live audiences, actors, and collaborators. I love experimentation and creating space for joy and exploration, especially in rehearsals and workshops.
I'm a recent alum of Director’s Lab West in Pasadena, CA, an eight day workshop for Theater Directors--originating from the Lincoln Center in New York. Not only did the experience reignite flames I had burning for the theater as a youth (that I hadn't realized had cooled over the years), I felt newly equipped with updated tools for directing, collaborating, choreographing, and creating energizing spaces for artists and students.
My creative process thrives in community with others and I believe the work is only worth doing if we can care for and nurture our actors, collaborators, friends, and students alongside the creative process."
