About this Event
Hosted in the mine‑water‑heated Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, this two‑day symposium and site visit is co‑organised by BGS, the Mining Remediation Authority, DESNZ and IEA Geothermal. It will bring together leading voices from the UK and around the world. Available both in person and online.
In person attendance:
The Symposium will run from 09:00 to 17:30 (BST) on Wednesday 29 April and from 09:00 to 15:30 (BST) on Thursday 30 April 2026.
There is a registration fee of £40.00 for the main symposium on 29 and 30 April. Tickets are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment!
The registration fee charged for this event is a contribution towards the cost of lunch, other refreshments and the venue. The event has been heavily subsidised by IEA Geothermal and the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.
Online attendance:
Registration is free for online attendance and we welcome attendance from all nations. Joining instructions will be sent to you in advance of the symposium.
Optional Walking Tour:
There is an optional walking tour on Thursday 30 April to the Gateshead mine water heat network. The first tour will commence at 14:00. The tour should take around one hour and includes a walk of about half a mile, slightly uphill. The route follows flat pavements. Please note that there are no toilet facilities available during the tour.
Registration is required for this and spaces are limited.
Up to 2 tours in total will take place depending on numbers and will be run at 30 minutes after the commencement of the first tour at 14:00.
The tour is only open to participants of the main in-person symposium.
