About the Negroni
The Negroni traces its origins to Florence, Italy in the early 1900s and has since become one of the most recognizable cocktails in the world. According to popular legend, Count Camillo Negroni visited Caffè Casoni in Florence around 1919 and asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to strengthen his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by replacing the soda water with gin. The result was a bold new drink that quickly became associated with the Count himself.
Over the last century, the Negroni has evolved from a Florentine café order into a global cocktail icon. Today it remains a staple in cocktail bars around the world and continues to inspire modern variations, including the popular Negroni Sbagliato, which replaces gin with sparkling wine for a lighter, effervescent take on the classic.
