Create your own floral arrangement using a vessel hand-crafted by one of the makers featured in Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan.
About this Event

Explore the functional beauty of Japanese craft by creating your own floral arrangement using a ceramic vessel hand-crafted by one of the makers featured in the exhibition Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan.

These workshops highlight how craft enriches everyday life, presenting craft objects not only as works of art to be admired at a distance but also as functional items of beauty.

Led by instructors from Ikebana International London Chapter, each workshop guides participants through the creation of their own floral arrangement, drawing on principles from a different school of ikebana. Instruction focuses on how the form and character of the vessel shapes the arrangement, encouraging a thoughtful relationship between flowers and vessels.

Participants take home flower and plant materials used in the workshop (vessels remain at Japan House London).

Following each day of workshops, two arrangements created by the instructors using the exhibition vessels will be displayed at Japan House London for all visitors to enjoy.

Workshop series schedule:

Thursday, 12 February – Instruction by Ohara School

Thursday, 12 March – Instruction by Ikenobō School

Thursday, 9 April 2026 – Instruction TBC

is on display in the Gallery at Japan House London until 10 May 2026.
