About this Event
Enhance the breadth of support and compassion you give to pet owners by gaining an accredited certificate in ourHuman Animal Link - supporting people and animals within the community - full course or specifically selected modules.
This e-learning course will give you the essential skills you need and counts towards 18 hours of continued professional development (CPD) if all four modules are completed. The course can be completed in a maximum of up to eight weeks. The course will end after this period. There are four modules in total. You can choose to study all four modules together or select those which you feel are most useful and relevant to you. If studied separately modules one and three each count towards six hours of CPD and modules two and four equal three hours of CPD.

Choosing a course
Course booking and secure payments are taken via Eventbrite. If you cannot complete the course within the timescale, you can defer to another course once free of charge. If you are still unable to complete the course after deferring, you will be required to pay the full price of the course again to continue.

Modules covered during the course (ALL FOUR MODULES £280, 18 HOURS CPD)Module 1 – Pet loss (six hrs CPD, £120)
This will enable you to develop your emotional support loss skills, including how to have the most supportive conversations with your clients. We will share with you best practice when working with your clients around the time of pet loss including preparing them for this, supporting them during the euthanasia appointment and after pet loss has occurred. The importance of confidentiality, safeguarding practices and maintaining boundaries will also be discussed.
Module 2 – Supporting individuals in the workplace with issues impacting their welfare (three hrs CPD, £60)
This module covers the impact of poverty, loneliness, and domestic abuse on the mental health of individuals and practical ways you can support them. Social prescribing, what it is and how it can be applied as well as signposting and how this can be helpful when working with your clients will be explored.
Module 3 – Building positive relationships, conflict resolution and safeguarding (six hrs CPD, £120)
The importance of the relationships you have with your clients and building these using self-awareness and emotional intelligence will be discussed. We will also explore the importance of client confidentiality and setting client expectations. Conflict management and resolution, with the use of illustrative examples will be included to develop your skills when working with this. You’ll also learn about safeguarding, its implications and guidance on how to ensure that you are working with this as best you can within your area of work.
Module 4 – Compassion fatigue, burn-out, trauma and resilience (three hrs CPD, £60)
Very often working in the animal welfare sector can be emotionally challenging. This module will develop your understanding of compassion fatigue, burn-out and trauma. We will explore what they are, how they present and how they can be managed as well as the importance of emotional resilience.

This qualification is subject to our quality assurance and validation process to ensure that new and revised qualifications are fit for purpose. Qualifications are reviewed to ensure the alignment of the qualification with agreed design principles, regulatory requirements and to ensure accuracy and consistency across units and qualifications. Through our quality assurance and validation process, we ensure the qualification, its units and assessments, are fit for purpose and can be delivered efficiently.
Prior learning
There are no pre-requisites that a learner must achieve prior to taking this course. IT Application Skills qualification, all knowledge, skills and understanding about the subject will be covered within the training.

Cancellation policy
You can cancel your booking within 14 days of confirming your place without charge (provided your course hasn't started).
If you cancel your booking more than four weeks before the start of the course, we only charge a £30 cancellation fee to cover our costs.
If you cancel your booking between two and four weeks before the start of the course, you will receive a 50% refund if your course fee was more than £60. If your course fee was less than £60, we will charge a £30 cancellation fee, and refund you any remaining balance.
If you cancel your booking less than two weeks before the start of the course, you won’t get any refund.
Depending on the circumstances we may offer an alternative to a refund, such as enrolment to an alternative course.
In exceptional circumstances we may need to cancel your booking. If we do, we will always try to offer you a suitable alternative. If you choose not to accept this, we will offer you a full refund.

We will charge a £30 administration fee for all deferrals, payable before being enrolled onto the next suitable course.
