About this Event
Amongst the cohort of loosely defined grapes known as 'international varieties', which have found their way across nearly every corner of the globe, it is Riesling that is perhaps the most shrouded in mystery. But here at Theatre of Wine, it is perhaps one of our absolute most adored varieties. Riesling comes in a diverse array of styles but is always accompanied by its trademark acidity and beguiling aromatics. Those of the Mosel are light on their feet like a ballet dancer, often with a touch of residual sugar.
Move over to the red slate of the lesser-known Nahe and you find fantastic examples with intense minerality and a touch more richness. New World examples, like those from Eden Valley in Australia, get more sunlight and warmth and boast powerful and evocative petrol-like aromas. Or explore the fascinating Finger Lakes in upstate New York. This variety also makes tantalisingly sweet expressions that are far from cloying. Sit back, relax and enjoy the incredible diversity of a trade-favourite grape.
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
