Home.land is a new body of work by Aida Smith that explores how the places we live shape who we become. Over time, home imprints itself on us: the geography we walk, work, and tend. Drawing on scenes from across Aotearoa New Zealand, Smith’s paintings move between the spectacular and the everyday, rendered through her soft touch and restrained palette.
These works consider how the land provides for us, and entwines our bodies, memories, and routines with place. Home.land reflects on belonging, care, and the ways landscapes continue to live within us long after we leave them.
About our Pocket Exhibition series
Our new Pocket Exhibition series offers artists the opportunity to present a focused body of work within a dedicated section of the gallery. Occupying up to half the space (or smaller, depending on scale), each exhibition features a cohesive collection of up to 15 artworks, creating a considered and immersive presentation without the scale and commitment of a full-gallery takeover.
Designed to be more accessible while still impactful, pocket exhibitions allow artists to explore ideas in depth and invite audiences into a concentrated moment in their practice. Each show opens with an intimate gathering alongside the artist and runs for two weeks. The remainder of the gallery continues to showcase a curated selection from our stable of artists, ensuring a dynamic and layered gallery experience throughout.
