About this Event
The Peak District is home to a stunning and diverse range of landscapes, from dramatic gritstone ridges and stark moorland plateaus in the park's northern area, known as the Dark Peak, to steep limestone valleys and deep gorges in the south, the White Peak. On this trip, you’ll experience the very best of both regions, along with a chance to indulge in the Peak District’s most famous treat – Bakewell pudding! 🥧
On Saturday, we'll do the most famous walk in the Peak District – up to the summit of Mam Tor, also known as the “Shivering Mountain”. After climbing the much-loved hill, standing at 517 metres, the route will take us along the Great Ridge, past the summits of Hollins Cross, Back Tor and Lose Hill, where we'll have stunning views over Edale, Hope Valley and even the edge of Kinder Scout. The highlights of the walk include the picturesque villages of Castleton and Hope, atmospheric Norman ruins of Peveril Castle, built in 1086, and the scenic Cave Dale valley. After the hike, we'll enjoy a well-deserved pint at the traditional 17th-century Ye Olde Nags Head, before heading to our hotel.
After a hearty breakfast on Sunday, we’ll set out to explore The Roaches, famed for their striking gritstone edges and craggy outcrops, much loved by both hikers and climbers. We’ll also visit Lud’s Church – a mysterious, moss-covered chasm believed to have been a secret place of worship in the 15th century and a setting for ancient medieval poetry.
We’ll then head for lunch to the picturesque village of Bakewell, home to the famous Bakewell Tart and Bakewell Pudding! These traditional British desserts are made by hand, using the original recipes from the 1800s. After lunch, we'll head off again for a relaxing walk through the stunning limestone gorge of Dovedale along the River Dove. We'll admire soaring limestone pinnacles, secret caves and arches carved over the millennia and cross the river by its famous stepping stones.
