About this Event
Harley Weir: Walls book launch & signing + Finissage *The garden: chapter 2
Join us for the launch and signing of Harley Weir's latest publication Walls, alongside the closing reception of her exhibition The Garden: chapter 2.
Walls brings together photographs made between 2013 and 2019 on both sides of the Israeli apartheid wall, from the occupied Palestinian West Bank to East Jerusalem. The book pairs these images with written contributions by Palestinians and is self-published by Weir in a limited edition of 500 copies.
During the event, a selection of texts from Walls will be read aloud by two young Palestinians from We Are Not Numbers, a Gaza-based organization that mentors young Palestinian writers and journalists to tell their own stories and challenge the narratives that reduce them to numbers and statistics.
All proceeds are split between We Are Not Numbers and Amos Trust.
This evening also marks the closing weekend of Weir's solo exhibition The Garden: chapter 2, which brings together new and archival images that combine her signature intensity and fluid approach to image-making with a melancholic but resolved nostalgia and forceful, subversive energy. The title reflects the garden's universal symbolism as a place of seed and growth, a space of beginning and ending, and in the contemporary context, the enduring human desire for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Harley will join us for the book signing and books will be available for purchase.
