Choreographies of Compliance: Between Allowance and Acceptance
Bringing together the practices of Razia Barsatie from Suriname and Rucha Kulkarni from India, the exhibition forms a charged spatial threshold, the “space in-between” where bodies carry histories that have travelled through time and distance, transformed, and settled into the present. The exhibition approaches femininity not as a fixed identity, but as a condition shaped through rules and allowances, permissions and acceptances, repetitions and restraints, silences and embodied negotiations. With mediums like photography, epoxy, spice, flour, textile and thread the oeuvre of the show is both magnificent and deeply personal. De tentoonstelling, die de praktijken van Razia Barsatie uit Suriname en Rucha Kulkarni uit India samenbrengt, vormt een geladen ruimtelijke drempel, de 'tussenruimte' waar lichamen geschiedenissen dragen die door tijd en afstand hebben gereisd, getransformeerd en zich in het heden hebben gevestigd. De tentoonstelling benadert vrouwelijkheid niet als een vaststaande identiteit, maar als een conditie die gevormd wordt door regels en toelaten, toestemmingen en acceptaties, herhalingen en beperkingen, stiltes en belichaamde onderhandelingen. Met mediums als fotografie, epoxy, specerijen, meel, textiel en draad is het oeuvre van de tentoonstelling zowel magnifiek als diep persoonlijk. Beide kunstenaars zullen aanwezig zijn bij de vernissage - kom gerust langs voor een feestelijk drankje.
