Have you been learning how to sew but know that there are tricks that would make your life a little better? Or have you wanted to learn, but don’t know where to start? This is an introduction to the very basics of hand sewing techniques used in theatre and film. We are getting into the essentials of needle, thread, fabric, and basic hand sewn closures.
In this class we will cover:
- How to thread a needle
- When to wax thread
- What is hand sewing thread vs. machine sewing thread
- Thread length in hand sewing- and why its important!
- Lock stitch vs. knots
- Basic stitches: Running Stitch, Basting Stitch, Back Stitch, Cross Stitch, and if you are feeling bold, a Blind Hem Stitch!
- Basic Closures: Buttons, Hook and Bar, and Snaps!
