About the Play

Growing Pains follows 17-year-old Khadija as she navigates the hilarious and often awkward transition to university. Caught between her East London roots and a new, predominantly white university campus, she finds unexpected freedoms and friendships while grappling with the profound weight of cultural expectations, faith, and the fear of letting loved ones down. This relatable comedy deeply explores her journey as she finds herself genuinely caught between two worlds.

Throughout the story, Khadija is faced with decision that test her faith, morals and belief. What start’s off as a friendly decline to drink, creates a silent avalanche of events that leave Khadija wondering what would be the harm of having a sip? Khadija is a “fun” girl and despite what others might think, she does have the freedom to choose for herself.

Explore & Create

We have created a fun packed session of games, competitions and workshops drawing on themes and characters within the play. During this session, we'll facilitate a fun environment for you to explore themes from the play with a chance to win a £20 JD voucher, JUST for taking part!!

Who is this for?

'Growing Pains' is aimed at 13 to 18 year olds, who are in education, and are thinking about attending or are attending university. Maybe you're confused and not sure what path you want to take? Then this is for you. We'd encourage those who work with this group in any way and might like to share this work further to attend too. But, of course anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, even if you just love theatre! It should be an exciting and inspiring experience for everyone.
