Grief Talk Manchester: An Epic Grief Journey with Author & Personal Coach, Alan Creedon

Join us at The Monastery Manchester for a moving and deeply personal talk exploring grief, healing and the power of remembrance.
In An Epic Grief Journey, Alan Creedon shares the story of growing up in rural Ireland and the profound impact of his sister Aoife’s life and death. Aoife was born with severe cerebral palsy and spent much of her life in care, separated from her family. Alan reflects on how cultural norms and traditions shaped his family’s experience, and how grief and unresolved emotions stayed with him long into adulthood.
Following Aoife’s passing, Alan embarked on an extraordinary journey of remembrance and healing. Travelling from Manchester to his childhood home in Dingle, he walked hundreds of miles and even kayaked across the Irish Sea in his sister’s honour. The journey became both a tribute and a path toward understanding the grief and depression he had carried for much of his life.
This powerful talk offers insight into that experience and the lessons it revealed about love, loss and connection.
A Story of Grief, Healing and Courage
Alan’s journey has since become the subject of his book, in which he reflects on the emotional, physical and spiritual dimensions of his pilgrimage.
Through storytelling, reflection and honest conversation, this event explores:
· The long-term impact of grief and unresolved loss
· Cultural attitudes toward disability and family care
· The healing potential of physical journeys and ritual
· The importance of sharing grief stories within community
Alan now holds space for others navigating grief, offering empathy and understanding drawn from his own experience.
