About this Event
This workshop is for school staff that support children and adolescents who are bereaved by suicide including how to effectively support suicide loss survivors. The presentation will cover grief signs and symptoms in children and adolescents, how schools can support and educate about grief, and postvention strategies to consider after a suicide.
What we'll cover:
- Describe the physical, mental, and emotional components of grieving a suicide loss and how it compares with other types of grief.
- Identify effective ways to support children and youth at home and at school.
- Explore strategies for responding to suicide and working with grief after suicide in a school setting.
This will be an interactive 90-minute session. A resource list will be made available to all participants.
Presenter: Charlene Ray is a licensed independent clinical social worker and has been in practice as a therapist, mentor, and grief counselor for 35 years. Charlene teaches mindfulness in schools, facilitates Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction for teachers and is a Forefront in the Schools coach.
This workshop has been approved for 1 CEU by the Washington Chapter, National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists and Licensed Mental Health Counselors. Our provider number is #1975-473.
Forefront Suicide Prevention is an approved clock hour provider. This workshop has been approved for 1 clock hour for Washington state educators.
