About this Event
Join us for an engaging evening lecture exploring Greece's complex journey within the European Union.
Since joining the European Communities in 1981, Greece has used its place in Europe to strengthen its democracy, modernize its institutions, and gain access to resources that reshaped everything from infrastructure to public administration. But EU membership has never been simple. The adoption of the euro, the devastating eurozone crisis, and the strict conditions of international bailout programs raised profound questions about how much freedom a country truly retains when it is part of a shared economic system.
Yet Greece has also used the EU as a platform to amplify its voice — on migration, energy, regional diplomacy, and beyond. Its story is one of sovereignty not simply lost or kept, but continually reshaped through cooperation, crisis, and strategic choice.
