Description:
Step into a calm and welcoming introduction to how sound can support relaxation, presence, and mindful rest. This workshop begins with a 90 minute class open to anyone, followed by a 3.5-hour deeper dive designed especially for yoga teachers who want practical ways to incorporate sound into their classes. No musical experience is needed for either portion.
In the first session, you’ll start by experiencing a guided sound journey, checking in with your state of being both before and after. We’ll then unpack what’s happening in an accessible, real-world way, and demonstrate a variety of beginner-friendly instruments including bowls, gentle percussion, chimes, and melodic tone instruments. You’ll learn different ways to listen: through the ears, through physical sensation, and through the emotional and mental layers. We’ll also share practical ideas for creating a quiet, workable sound-and-relaxation corner at home. Basic considerations for comfort and safety will be covered as well.
The extended session goes further into how to use sound skillfully in yoga and meditation settings. We’ll weave sound into a short yoga practice, then we’ll explore pacing, volume, silence, and how different textures like harmony, gentle dissonance, rhythms, and drones can shape the experience in the room. You’ll get hands-on time with a wide range of instruments, learn practical tips for selecting and caring for them, and finish with guided “teachbacks” where participants lead a short savasana-style experience using an instrument of their choice, with supportive coaching and clear, usable takeaways.
Sound can be a powerful support for wellness because it naturally invites the nervous system to downshift. Steady tones and gentle rhythms can help ease mental chatter, encourage slower breathing, improve focus, and create a sense of spaciousness, especially when paired with intentional rest. Many people also find that sound makes it easier to settle into stillness by offering a simple, sensory pathway into relaxation that feels grounded, accessible, and surprisingly effective.
