About this Event
Join us at Studio Pottery London for this wonderful session with Elena Gileva on Thursday 18th June from 11am.
GLOST was founded by Elena Gileva — an artist and ceramics teacher with nearly twenty years of practice. Studio Pottery London is delighted to welcome her here for an intimate two hour long workshop exploring the variety of finishes her exceptional glazes offer.
The session is centred specifically around brush-on glaze application as a surface technique, rather than decorative painting in the traditional sense. The focus is on understanding how application methods influence the final fired result.
Choose your bisque piece or bring your own, pick your glazes, and time decorating. Some glazes are smooth and predictable. Others bubble, crawl, and shift in the kiln in ways that are genuinely hard to anticipate. You’ll get a sense of what each one does and why — enough to make informed choices.
The structure of the session would be as follows:
- Introduction and samples
Elena will present a selection of finished test tiles and examples demonstrating different application methods — including single glaze use and layering combinations. This helps ground the session in real fired outcomes rather than theory alone. - Discussion and demonstration
A short, practical walkthrough of GLOST glazes. This is demonstrated live so participants can clearly see glaze behaviour during application. - Elena will giude you through
- Surface preparation
- Brush loading and stroke control
- Building consistent coats
- Timing between layers
- Layering approaches and how order affects results - Hands-on glazing
Participants glaze their own bisque pieces using GLOST brush-on glazes, applying the techniques discussed.
The emphasis here is on control and consistency — avoiding common issues such as streaking, crawling, pinholing, and uneven coverage.
Overall, the session is designed as a technical introduction to glaze application, giving participants a more reliable and informed approach they can take back into their own practice.
