About this Event
Join the Glasgow Student Assembly!
With rising rent and cost-of-living, a declining quality of education, ballooning student debt, inaccessible and underfunded mental health support, and students' voices being completely ignored -- the system is failing students, and something must change.
The Glasgow University Student Left Society (GUSL) is organising to bring together students from universities and colleges across Glasgow in mass, democratic meeting to create a unified student voice in the city.
The Glasgow Student Assembly will take place on the 16th March at the University of Glasgow and will be run on the principles of participatory democracy to identify the priority issues for students and to devise a plan to create change.
The assembly will have the opportunity to create a Student's Charter, which will represent top priorities for political action for students, which can then be taken to our universities' and colleges' management, and the Scottish and UK governments.
The event will be structured as follows:
- Introduction, context & ground rules.
- Part I - What are the problems?
- Small group discussions, then feedback.
- Part II - What can we do about it?
- Small group discussions, then feedback.
- Part III - Decide on final statement.
- Decide on our demands and our next steps.
- Ratify the Student Charter with a vote.
Everyone is welcome who attends any university or college in the Greater Glasgow area!
