About this Event
GirlWrights is 3Girls Theatre Company's free playwriting program for girls ages 12-19 who don't otherwise have access to theatre arts programs in their schools. We fervently believe young girls and teens have voices that deserve to be heard on stage. In addition to strengthening teamwork and writing skills, our young writers learn how to be confident in sharing their opinions, stories, and personal brand of entertaining theatre.
Participants in the July workshop will spend each afternoon in Washington Square Park learning how to write their own 1 act play, with professional actors performing their work for a professional film crew! Snacks will be provided, and participants can look forward to playing theatre games and doing creative writing exercises. The location is nearby 3Girls Theatre Company office (1034 Kearny St, San Francisco, CA 94133) for bathroom use.
Young writers will get tools they need to succeed, including experienced teaching artists to guide them. Our goals for our writers are:
1. Increase their self-awareness, as a result of the unique interrogatory process inherent to playwriting.
2. Increase their self confidence by accepting our unconditional support to tell their own story in their own voice; and
3. Increase their appreciation of theatre as an artistic medium.
Below is a video performance from our May Minute Monologue Festival, an excellent example of the amazing art our young writers create.
