Workshop
Pare your prose to its sharpest edge. A workshop on short forms and shorter sentences. We will work on flash fiction (AKA prose poetry, AKA hyperfiction), following masters such as Lydia Davis and Christine Schutt. We will also practice bringing the immediacy of flash fiction into longer prose forms at the line level.
Instructor
Fiona King Foster is the author of the novel The Captive, which was shortlisted for the Crime Writers of Canada’s Best First Novel award and the Ontario Library Association’s Evergreen Award. Her flash fiction has appeared in Beside, Hobart, Midway Journal, New Quarterly, New World Writing, NOON Annual, and NY Tyrant, and she has written creative non-fiction and criticism for the Globe and Mail, Maisonneuve Magazine, and le Panoptique. She holds an MA in Creative Writing from Concordia University and was a 2023 Hawthornden Literary Foundation residential fellow. Her shortest published story was twelve words long.
