MOViES FOR MANiACS is proud to present the Bay Area Premiere of Louise Weard's latest mind-melting CASTRATiON chapter. Co-presented by Frameline and easily one of the most exciting and audacious films of 2025, THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS is "a labyrinthine post-modern epic about gender."
Part of the "Get Off the Internet" Film Festival, curated and hosted by Jesse Hawthorne Ficks and showcases radical cinema, unavailable to stream online, this is a stand alone chapter in director Louise Weard's CASTRATiON Anthology, meaning you do not need to have seen Anthology I.
The film follows Circle (Alex Walton) who lives in a trans woman separatist cult called the “Polygon Angels,” but is having second thoughts about her commitment to the group. The cult has constant ketamine-fueled orgies, has an ideological stance influenced by the /lgbt/ board on 4chan, and has predatory online recruitment tactics facilitated by an AI chatbot. Tapping into the multi-faceted satire of John Waters and Lina Wertmüller, while channeling the transgressive audacity of John Cassavetes, this equally hilarious and disturbing deconstruction of modern times is at the absolute forefront of a new wave for 2020s Independent cinema.
Written and Directed by Louise Weard, the cast consists of Ivy Wolk (ANORA), Lea Rose Sebastianis (THE ALL GOLDEN), Hesse Deni (BRAiN DEATH), Jack Haven (I SAW THE TV GLOW), Alexandra McVicker (THE SERPENT'S SKiN), Betsey Brown (ACTORS), Theda Hammel (STRESS POSiTiONS), and Peter Vack (www.RACHELORMONT.com), amongst a mix of other emerging talent and weird and wonderful cameos. Music by Ravine Angel, DOOR EATER, Uboa, Nedezuga, and Alex Walton.
NOTE: Hot Dogs and Tofu Pups will be on hand for audience members who take the leap at conquering this cinematic Mount Everest. Running Time: 300 minutes (w/ a built-in intermission). Unrated with extreme mature content. No one under the age of 18 permitted.
