About Harvey:
ABOUT THE PLAYBy Mary Chase
Directed by Peter Pasyk*
This classic, Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy is the story of a perfect gentleman, Elwood P. Dowd, and his best friend, Harvey -- a pooka, who is a six-foot tall, invisible rabbit. When Elwood begins introducing Harvey around town, his embarrassed sister, Veta Louise, and her daughter, Myrtle Mae, determined to commit Elwood to a sanitarium. But Elwood continues to escape the doctors and psychiatrists who wish to ‘cure’ him. The magic and charm of Elwood, and of the play, is that he’s simply different to anyone you’ve likely met — he’s calm, gentle and kind. Is normal really what the world needs more of? Or are Elwood and Harvey fine just as they are?
