First, Second Floor Galleries and Events Room
The evening begins with a 30–minute concert of music by two percussionists Julian Warburton and Simon Limbrick, inspired by Seulgi Lee’s exhibition SPAN, presented by Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG), including pieces by composers John Cage, Toshio Hosokawa and Younghi Pagh-Paan.
This is followed by an informal walk through Thread the Loom, with a chance to view work from five weaving residencies undertaken by West Midlands artists: Chantelle Folarin, Mahawa Keita, Clare Langford, Andrée Walker and Theo Wright.
We close the evening with a panel discussion with artists Seulgi Lee, Bharti Parmar, Andrée Walker and Gugan Gill, chaired by Daphne Chu, Ikon Curator. The group discuss and journey through different ecologies of practice, their experiences of weaving and the crossovers between craft and contemporary art.
Ikon Youth Programme (IYP) also showcase their interventions on the hand loom.
