Cost: Pay What You Wish
A panoramic pastiche of figures who are forever changed in the darkness of an infamous 1977 power blackout, Garth Risk Hallberg’s debut novel City on Fire was a New York Times bestseller, named a best book of 2015 by a slew of publications, and was adapted into a popular Apple TV+ series of the same name. Referred to by Granta as one of the best young novelists of 2017 and translated into 17 languages, Hallberg is also the author of an illustrated novella, A Field Guide to the North American Family, and he has contributed criticism, stories and essays to the Los Angeles Times, Slate, and The Millions, among other places. In The Second Coming, a recovering addict and his struggling thirteen-year-old daughter negotiate a path forward together after years of estrangement.
