About this Event
Join Alter Eco Farms for an engaging and accessible class all about how improving your soil can transform the health, productivity, and resilience of your garden. Whether you grow vegetables in raised beds, flowers in containers, or manage a backyard landscape, this class will show you that caring for your soil is one of the most effective and affordable ways to care for your plants.
Together, we will dive deep into the hidden world beneath our feet, exploring the incredible community of microorganisms that live in healthy soil. Using microscopy and easy-to-understand concepts, we will learn about the major groups of beneficial soil life, how to identify them, and the important roles they play in supporting plant growth. We will discuss how microorganisms naturally cycle nutrients, build soil structure, retain water, and help create vibrant, resilient gardens without relying heavily on synthetic inputs.
This class is designed for gardeners of all experience levels and focuses on practical, approachable ways anyone can begin improving their soil health at home. When we take care of the soil first, the soil can better take care of our plants.
We will finish the class by viewing a living compost sample under the microscope, projected on the big screen so everyone can experience the living biology of healthy soil up close. You may even meet a nematode in real life.
