50% will go to Rhea Elise, She's fundraising to buy a new Safe & sound power wheelchair as she's is currently stranded with a malfunctioning wheelchair,

Words from Rhea:

Hello :). My name is Rhea and I enjoy making music, preferably as a street musician. I also have a keen interest in scientific research related to health, ecology and interdependence. To be able to move around, I rely on my power wheelchair. Currently I can’t fully participate and contribute to society, because I am - at times quite literally - stuck with a malfunctioning wheelchair. As you can read below, my experiences with my current wheelchair and the company involved are not good. With your support, I hope to purchase a safe and adequate power wheelchair and work with a maintenance party of my own choice.

Fractured hip after wheelchair falls over

My current wheelchair has been causing problems for years already, but in March 2025 things took a troublesome turn. The wheelchair tilted over, which caused me to fall from my chair onto the street. The fall caused hairline fractures in my hip. I had to stay in the hospital for days and had to recover and rehabilitate for months. Ever since, I haven’t been able to sleep in my bed, at first because the transfer was too painful and now because my muscles have become too weak to transfer in a safe way. Hence, I am necessitated to sleep in my wheelchair. Unfortunately, my wheelchair’s backrest cannot bend backwards far enough for me to lay down properly. That's another reason I really need another wheelchair. The current wheelchair, provided by the municipality, has been malfunctioning from the start. For instance:

  • Important parts, such as the power module, repeatedly broke down, even though I hardly went out and about the past few years.
  • To extend the leg rests, I have to push them away with my feet, while my strength has actually become less
  • One power cable turned out to be too short, causing it to disconnect when I changed the chair to its most extended posture (to rest and improve my circulation), which blocked the entire wheelchair from driving. In that way, I got stuck multiple times and had to wait for hours until someone from the maintenance company came. This has been an ongoing situation for over six months, with appointments being cancelled because the required parts were not available or present at the local branch of the company. On Christmas Eve an (otherwise friendly and careful) employee was working on the same problem again for three hours. In the end, as a temporary fix, we had to sacrifice the chair’s lift function, so the leg rest could function and I could sit relatively normally. In this process, hilariously, the setting menu suddenly contained a katapult option. I don’t know how long it will last until all functions are restored, but I can't play my street piano until then (as it is mounted on wheels and it’s too high for me in my chair's default position).
  • One of the breaks didn't work well for months last winter, so the wheelchair did not stay in the same place on a slope, causing unsafe situations
  • Safety and freedom of choice
  • Because of all these experiences, I don’t feel safe in this wheelchair. My hope is to purchase a wheelchair that is actually adequate in supporting my mobility, independence and posture. Moreover, one that is extra equipped to handle slopes well - I happen to live in a municipality with a lot of hills. The municipality recently granted me a budget for a new wheelchair, but that doesn’t cover the expected maintenance costs and the quotation I got for a suitable chair from an independent company. To give an idea of why I want to choose the maintenance company myself: the company which had been chosen by the municipality consciously keeps a very limited amount of spare parts because they have this special policy they call the ‘Just In Time system’. In practice, this results in weeks of waiting before they can repair a brake or a power module. Furthermore, urgent situations are often not resolved with urgency. That's why it is important to me to have the freedom to choose a wheelchair and a maintenance company of my own choice. In this way I will experience real support instead of restrictions from the equipment I have to depend on.
  • Objective
  • A supplier informed me that an adequate power wheelchair suitable for my physical disabilities will cost between € 25.000 and € 30.000. Furthermore the wheelchair must be maintained and important parts must be purchased as spare parts. The municipality granted € 19.472 for the purchase and € 500 a year to maintain the wheelchair. To cover the additional costs for an adequate wheelchair and its maintenance, my crowdfunding goal is € 16.000. Any contribution would be much appreciated!

50% will go to Rowell after he suffered a life-threatening AVM aneurysm in October 2023.

Words from Adriana ( Rowell's Partner)

Hello, my name is Adriana, and I’m facing eviction after making an impossible decision to leave my job to become the full-time caregiver for my boyfriend, Rowell, after he suffered a life-threatening AVM aneurysm in October 2023.

This sudden medical emergency changed our lives overnight and resulted in a brain injury, followed by a long, exhausting, deeply emotional, and complex road of recovery.

Because of the nature of brain injuries, recovery is rarely linear. It can affect far more than memory or speech — often requiring consistent physical, emotional, and neurological support. Research shows that familiar support from loved ones plays a critical role in recovery by helping with orientation, emotional regulation, mobility, and overall outcomes. Movement, reassurance, familiarity, and advocacy are essential in preventing decline and supporting healing.

sAlthough Rowell is currently in a nursing facility, healthcare systems everywhere are under immense strain. Staffing shortages and high patient loads mean that even caring professionals are often unable to provide the level of one-on-one attention that brain injury recovery truly needs. This isn’t about blame — it’s about the reality of an overwhelmed system.

Because of this, my presence became essential.

Rowell needed regular help with movement, repositioning, and stimulation to prevent stiffness, loss of mobility, and further complications. When consistent movement therapy wasn’t always available, I learned how to safely help him myself — gently assisting with movement, repositioning, and staying attentive to subtle changes that could easily be missed.

Alongside neurological healing, he also faced additional medical complications from prolonged hospitalization — including a stage 4 bedsore and chronic respiratory distress. Being present during these challenges was critical, and after a year of careful advocacy, family support, and consistent care, his bedsore has fully healed and his respiratory status has significantly improved. Emotional and spiritual encouragement from someone who loves him also played an important role in his progress.

The nursing facility is two hours away from my home, meaning I travel four hours a day to be there for him. A small handful of his immediate family is involved, but due to distance and responsibilities, it is difficult for them to commute consistently, though effort is always made.

It’s exhausting, but brain injury patients are especially vulnerable to isolation and setbacks without familiar, trusted support. I couldn’t leave him to navigate this alone. We always dreamed of spending our lives together and spoke of marriage in our future, and love is strong enough to endure this season.

I left my job so I could show up fully — not because professionals weren’t trying — but because he needed someone who knew him, loved him, noticed subtle changes, and could be present consistently.

I will be sharing a testimony video alongside this fundraiser showing our journey — the caregiving, the reality of recovery, and how faith met me in the middle of one of the hardest chapters of my life. Rowell has come further than any medical professional predicted. I never accepted a grim prognosis, and I’m grateful I was there to speak life over him. Today, he understands others, communicates in subtle but meaningful ways, and follows simple commands — often responding most to those closest and most familiar to him.

Ultimately, I believe God’s miracle-working power is present in this situation, and that He will continue to make a way for us — even when the path forward feels uncertain.

I am now beginning the process of returning to work, but months without income caused our rent to fall behind. Arrears accumulated, and I am now facing eviction on top of everything else.

This fundraiser is about survival, stability, and the chance to rebuild after a medical crisis that required more from us than we ever imagined.

Financial Transparency: Our total rent arrears are approximately $29,000, not including what is needed to provide a small cushion while I return to work and regain stability.

I am not expecting to raise all of this at once. My immediate goal is to raise enough to stop eviction proceedings and create breathing room while I rebuild financially.

If full arrears cannot be reached, funds raised will be used to secure safe housing or relocate if necessary, ensuring I am not left without shelter and so that Rowell has a safe place to return home as his recovery continues.

Initial Fundraising Goal: $16,000

This amount represents the most urgent need — preventing eviction and stabilizing our situation during recovery.

If we exceed this goal, additional funds will go toward remaining rent arrears or relocation costs if staying in our current home is no longer possible.

Suggested Donation Amounts

• $25 — Helps cover utilities or daily necessities

• $50 — Helps reduce rent arrears

• $100 — Provides a day of housing stability

• $250 — Covers part of monthly rent

• $500 — Makes a meaningful impact toward preventing eviction

• Any amount Truly helps and is deeply appreciated

Financial Breakdown

• $12,000–$15,000 — Immediate rent arrears to help stop eviction proceedings and/or support relocation

• $3,500–$5,000 — Upcoming rent while I return to work and rebuild steady income

• $2,000–$3,000 — Utilities, transportation, and caregiving-related living expenses

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. This season has tested us in ways I never imagined, but your support reminds us that we’re not alone. Your kindness is helping us hold on to hope.
