For over 30 years, the Five Points Ambassadors have been dedicated to preserving and performing the jazz and blues traditions of Denver’s legendary Five Points neighborhood. Founded by the late Purnell Steen, the group continues his mission and retains its regular first Friday performance at Dazzle.In September 2022, the Ambassadors spent a week performing and lecturing in Denver’s Sister City, Brest, France, as part of a cultural exchange program.
The band has performed for many dignitaries, including appearances surrounding the 2008 National Convention, playing for the Clintons and other notable guests. Purnell Steen’s deep musical roots included family ties to Eddie “Cleanhead” Vinson, George Duke, five-time Grammy Award winner Dianne Reeves, and legendary bassist Charlie Burrell.
