Learn the essentials of safe home canning in this interactive hands-on workshop with our Garden Manager Susan Ballerstedt and Chef Nancy Pifer. Participants will explore both water bath canning and pressure canning, gaining the skills needed to preserve fruits, vegetables, and more. This is a fully hands-on canning experience—not just a demonstration.
You’ll actually:
-Use both pressure canning and water bath canning
-Learn what proper sealing feels like (tightness, sound, and process)
-Safely handle hot jars in and out of the canner
-Understand timing, pressure, and cooling—what it really means in real life
-We’ll begin by pressure canning (full cycle included) so you can experience the entire process—from start to cooldown.
-Safety guidelines and best practices will be taught throughout.
Together, we’ll make a batch of jam, and each participant will take home a jar.
Light tastings included.
