About this Event
Flash Folk - DIY/Pop-up Choir
Flash Folk Choir is a participatory singing experience rooted in traditional folk and protest song - bringing people together to sing songs of land, labour, and resistance.
Developed in South East London by Sounds Between CIC, Flash Folk invites strangers to form a temporary choir through a single shared session and same-day performance. No experience is needed - just a willingness to take part.
Drawing on folk as a living cultural inheritance, the project reframes traditional music through an inclusive, contemporary lens - challenging narrow ideas of who folk belongs to, and opening it up as a collective, shared practice.
This special edition takes place as part of STST Lates - a night of folk - where participants and audiences come together in a relaxed, welcoming space. You can come to watch, or join the choir and sing.
Expect:
• A guided, accessible group singing session
• Songs rooted in histories of work, migration and collective resistance
• A one-off performance shaped by everyone in the room
• A warm, low-pressure environment focused on connection over perfection
