Eva Yerbabuena
Bailaora, coreógrafa, directora artística
Eva Yerbabuena, born in Germany and moved to Ogíjares, Granada, grew up in a family deeply rooted in the Andalusian culture. Raised by her grandparents, Encarna and Luis, in a rural environment that embraced both tradition and wisdom, Eva’s early life was shaped by the essence of Andalusia — a land rich in history and philosophy. Her passion for flamenco blossomed in childhood, thanks to her supportive family, particularly her aunt Encarnita, who recognized her artistic talent.
At the age of 8, Eva moved to a new life in Spain with her parents. By 11, she began flamenco lessons, showing exceptional promise. After training in various cities, including a pivotal time in Seville, she formed her own company in 1998 at just 28 years old, quickly gaining international recognition.
Eva’s career is marked by numerous accolades and global performances. She became the first flamenco company to perform at the Sydney Opera House and has graced stages such as the Teatro de la Villa in Paris, Sadler’s Wells in London, the City Center in New York, and venues across the world, from Tokyo to Dubai. Her work has been shaped by renowned mentors, including Mario Maya and Enrique “El Canastero,” and she’s collaborated with artists like Mario Maya, Merche Esmerelda, and Joaquin Cortés.
Her contributions to flamenco extend beyond the stage; Eva has been a key figure in numerous cultural events, including performances at the Bienal de Sevilla, the Teatro Español, and collaborations with directors such as Carlos Saura in the film Flamenco. In 2012, after a brief hiatus for motherhood, Eva returned with the acclaimed show AY! and continued to enchant audiences in London with Apariencias in 2017.
Today, Eva Yerbabuena remains one of the most influential and respected figures in contemporary flamenco, known for her profound artistry and groundbreaking choreography.
