Flame Glass Beads & Pendants - SOLD OUT

Led by Anthony Genet.
This workshop uses techniques that date back 3500 years, using flame-working to melt and manipulate molten glass into beads and pendants. You'll use a bench burner to melt glass into a stainless steel mandrill with a clay release, and build up glass into a bead or pendant. You'll use glass rods (or stringers) to make lines dots or drawings, and as it melts, the magic happens to make you object.
All going well you'll complete 10 beads or pendants. All glass need to be annealed - slowly cooled down over night - and will be available for collection the following day (or posted to you if you're unable to collect).
All tools and materials provided. This workshop is suitable for beginners or first timers no previous experience required. It is limited to three people maximum, held at the Flamdaisy Glass Studio opposite the Cathedral Gardens in the heart of Nelson city.
Anthony Genet began experimenting with glass when he was a teenager paint-stripping a house, and his curiosity with the gas burner compelled him to melt some broken glass he found in the garden. He burnt his fingers a few times and a fiery relationship was glass was formed.
As a child he had been impressed by the Mazda Man, an eccentric character who advertised lightbulbs coupled with neon light, bringing Christchurch's Cathedral Square to life. This led to his childhood resolve to one-day make lightbulbs.
In his early 20s he saw blowing glass from a furnace, and he instantly knew that is what he wanted to devote has time to. Three months later Anthony made the move to Whangarei to study craft design at Northland Polytechnic.
In the late 80s Anthony brought his first gas burners in from the USA. These were specifically designed for working glass and he used them to teach himself the magic of neon.
