At this show, Reg Meuross is joined by two members of his band, The Strike—renowned multi-instrumentalists Geraint Watkins (accordion, piano) and Marion Fleetwood (strings)—to bring Guthrie’s powerful story to life through music. Adding to the magic is narration by Will Kaufman, a world expert on Woody Guthrie and author of four books about the legendary folk singer.
With songs and stories that highlight Guthrie’s fight against racism, inequality, and injustice, Fire & Dust draws poignant parallels between Guthrie’s time and our present day. Townshend saw this project as drawing a direct line from Woody Guthrie through Bob Dylan to Reg Meuross, and described it as “folk music at its best.”
