About this Event
Mikesch served as cinematographer on several of his films and was personally closely connected to his world. In April we will be showing a number of Elfie Mikesch’s own highly original films.
Over a period of four years – from 2006 to 2010 – Elfi Mikesch followed Werner Schroeter with her camera. These were the years from his cancer diagnosis until his death, years filled with creative drive and a deep passion for film, theatre, and photography. Mikesch offers an intimate insight into Schroeter’s work on projects such as his theatre production Antigone / Elektra (2009), the preparations for the exhibition of his photographic work Autrefois & Toujours (2009), as well as the intense dubbing sessions for his final film Diese Nacht (This Night, 2008).
Numerous excerpts from Werner Schroeter’s films – from Eika Katappa to Diese Nacht – trace the colourful spectrum of his cinematic oeuvre. Music permeates this space of remembrance. Biographical connections and his passionate relationship with film, opera, and theatre become as visible as his bonds with the people with whom he worked, lived, and shared friendships – among them Isabelle Huppert, Rosa von Praunheim, Wim Wenders, and Ingrid Caven.
