Carlos A. Gutiérrez, a native of Mexico City, Gutiérrez cofounded Cinema Tropical in 2001 with Monika Wagenberg, which has become the leading presenter and promoter of Latin American cinema in the U.S. Gutiérrez has presented multiple series' at numerous institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, Film at Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim Museum, Film at BAM, and Anthology Film Archives. Gutiérrez is also part of Distribution Advocates, which works to collectively reclaim power for independent storytellers in the current systems of distribution and exhibition.
