About this Event
Feminist Library Tour: Exploring Identity, Memory and Speculative Futures
Date: Wednesday 29th April or Wednesday 6th May
Come to The Feminist Library for a guided tour through the words and worlds of Black feminist writers, including Toni Morrison, Octavia E. Butler, Saidiya Hartman, Warsan Shire and more.
Together, we will move through three interconnected themes: Identity, Memory, and Speculative Futures. Through selected texts and prompts, you will be invited to interrogate and respond to the work and explore your own experiences from childhood to womanhood and ideate on the worlds you wish to occupy.
The session will close with dedicated time to write your own poetry, inspired by the works explored. Pieces will be included in a collective anthology.

About Her Tempest Tongue
Her Tempest Tongue is rooted in the belief that women’s stories are storms to be reckoned with. In a time marked by accelerating environmental, social and political change, Black women continue to be amongst the most vulnerable and unprotected from these changes whilst simultaneously being expected to be infrastructures of care within their home, communities and workplaces. This project, funded by The TuWezeshe Feminist Leadership programme, recognises creative writing as a tool for change.
Tour Guide
The tour will be led by Svetlana Onye. Svetlana is a writer, singer, journalist, and researcher exploring climate justice, memory, and storytelling across the African diaspora. She leads The Eco-Anxiety Africa Project and has worked on international climate policy. A TuWezeshe Young Women’s Leadership Fellow, her writing has been published in The Guardian, Carbon Brief, and Shado Mag. She is also an alum of the Writers on the Rise Program by the Black British Book Festival and Pan Macmillan.
