About this Event
The Fabric Manipulation and Textile Embellishment workshop provides a great exploration of various surface design techniques. Participants will delve into fabric manipulation, beading, embroidery, lace appliqué, ruching, smocking, and quilting.
The session starts off with a discussion about different types of fabric, highlighting the sources of fibres and the construction techniques involved. Following that, you’ll learn how to incorporate decorative elements that not only enhance the visual appeal but also the texture of your creations.
Throughout the course, you’ll participate in practical activities that enable you to try out various embellishment techniques. The focus will be on traditional hand methods, especially beading and embroidery using a needle and threads.
This course is ideal for beginners as well as those with some experience. It also serves as a fantastic opportunity for textile artists, makers, and designers looking to refine their skills and elevate their portfolios through thoughtfully designed, embellished, and embroidered textiles.
What will I achieve? By the end of the session, you will be able to produce fabric manipulation and embellishment samples using a variety of hand techniques.
Please bring to the first session:
Students are welcome to bring any particular materials and embellishments they would like to work with. Materials, beads, embroidery hoops, threads and scissors will be provided.
