Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) For OCD & Anxiety Disorders
Overview
Join us for an in-person comprehensive training regarding the use of Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) therapy for OCD & Anxiety Disorders. This training will cover everything you need to know about implementing ERP techniques effectively in your practice. Specifically, you will gain real-life practical and comprehensive treatment strategies for:
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia)
- Specific Phobias
- Panic Disorder
- Agoraphobia
Learning Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
• Describe the core components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and their relevance to anxiety treatment.
• Identify the key features of Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), including exposures and response prevention strategies.
• Recognize common symptoms and presentations of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders.
• Demonstrate the ability to construct an exposure hierarchy using Subjective Units of Distress (SUDS).
• Summarize the stages and phases of ERP treatment, including acute, stabilization, and relapse prevention phases.
• Explain the role of inhibitory learning and habituation in the effectiveness of exposure-based interventions.
• Choose appropriate exposure techniques (e.g., imaginal, in vivo, script-based) based on client presentation and treatment goals.
• Categorize cognitive distortions and treatment-interfering behaviors (TIBs) that may impact ERP outcomes.
• Distinguish between obsessions, compulsions, safety behaviors, and accommodation-seeking behaviors.
• Identify strategies for engaging clients and families in ERP, including reducing accommodation and increasing treatment adherence.
Each participant will also receive a free one-hour private case consultation with the presenter to be used within one year after the presentation.
About Your Presenter
Michael Blumberg, LCPC is the founder and Director of Glenview Counseling Group, a multidisciplinary psychotherapy group in Glenview, IL. He has been treating OCD and related disorder for 15+ years and completed post-graduate training with the IOCDF’s Behavioral Therapy Training Institute. Michael formerly ran a support group for family members of people with OCD as well as a consultation group for OCD-informed therapists in the Chicago suburbs. He is also a former board member of OCD Midwest, a subsidiary of IOCDF and a founding member and former board member of the Chicagoland Hoarding Task Force. Michael has presented locally, nationally and internationally on the subject of OCD & ERP.

Please note: This is a two-day training. The training will take place on Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm daily. You must be present for both days to receive CE credits for participation. We will take a lunch break as well as one 10-minute break each day.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for registration and to get settled.
This training is appropriate for clinicians with little to no working knowledge of ERP or those with moderate knowledge who would like a review of their skills.
