Dr. Robert Speel, Associate Professor of Political Science at Penn State Behrend, will discuss the origins of gerrymandering in the United States, why it's become more common, and the impact of the practice on U.S. politics both past and present. His presentation will include a discussion of important court cases on the topic, examples of gerrymandered districts, and potential solutions to prevent gerrymandering in light of various states exploring mid-decade redistricting. This event is a Brock Institute for Mega Issues Education lecture and part of the JES's USA 250 Event Series.
