Exploring DoxyPEP A 2-hour workshop about DoxyPEP, its benefits and limitations, and how it could benefit women's health
About this Event

What is this workshop about?

You are invited to join our workshop exploring the uses, benefits and drawbacks of an antibiotic Medic*tion called doxyPEP that can be taken within 72 hours of having sex to reduce the chance of getting chlamydia or syphilis. Help us to understand your thoughts around the potential uses of doxyPEP, what healthcare workers should be considering, and what policymakers need to know. We want to hear your opinions; every voice is important.

Who are we looking for?

This workshop is a trans-inclusive space for women and non-binary folks comfortable in femme spaces who have sex with people with penises. We invite anyone interested in exploring what doxyPEP could mean for healthcare systems and sexual community practices to join the workshop.

What is DoxyPEP?

DoxyPEP is an antibiotic Medic*tion that can be taken as a single dose within 72 hours of having sex, which reduces the chance of acquiring syphilis or chlamydia.

Who is running the workshop?

This workshop is part of a wider public engagement project about DoxyPEP use in Scotland. Bringing together professionals from Edinburgh University, The Love Tank, Terrence Higgins Trust, and Waverley Care, we are exploring perceptions of DoxyPEP and how it might be used by marginalised communities to improve sexual health outcomes.

There will be two facilitators running this workshop: Mary O’Driscoll (she/they) from Edinburgh College and Gillian Meikle (she/her) from Waverley Care.

Participation benefits

We appreciate your time, and so are offering an honourarium in the form of a £25 Love2Shop voucher. Tea, coffee, and snacks will be provided, and a fund is available to cover participants’ travel costs.

Travel reimbursement

We are happy to reimburse you for your travel to/from the workshop. Please retain your physical bus/train tickets so we can make a copy during the workshop. Or you can email us your digital tickets after the event.

Who can I contact with questions?

Please direct questions to Gillian Meikle (she/her) at [email protected] or Mary O’Driscoll (she/they) at [email protected].
