About this Event
People Planet Pint Presents is your chance to learn more about weird and wonderful topics related to sustainability.
We take big ideas and serve them up as pint-sized knowledge in the relaxed setting of a local pub. Itโs where curious minds and passionate speakers come together over a drink to explore whatโs happening in their community - from nature and science to local politics and everything in between.
Hear from inspiring individuals and experts on topics you might never have discovered otherwise. Weโre bringing big conversations off the stage and into the pub to deliver thought-provoking, accessible talks that inform, inspire, and spark new ideas.
Christopher will be diving into:
- The Story of Some Funguys - from passion project to fully operational mushroom farm.
- The Bunker - Cold War refuge to unlikely growing space, and how it found a second life.
- What Mushrooms Actually Need - why abandoned spaces often tick every box.
- Realistic Outputs - yields, species, and honest expectations for unconventional growing.
- Trials and Tribulations -lessons learned and how to turn any neglected space into a grow space.
Bio:
Christopher Valentine-Allan is a real fun guy. With a history of brewing, baking, and now mushroom farming, he has spent his career finding new ways to work with food -- as a producer, forager, and private chef. He is the founder of Some Funguys, growing and supplying speciality mushrooms from a decommissioned nuclear bunker in Edinburgh.
Talks will last 30 - 40 minutes and open up for Q+A afterwards so you can ask our expert speakers whatever you want. It's informal and social where you can stick around after for a drink or two and keep the ideas flowing!
