About this Event
Officially opened in 1952, The United Nations Headquarters in New York City remains the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can come together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity. And no areas at the complex encompass those values more than the Conference Building and General Assembly, which contains the meeting spaces where world leaders and representatives of the UN's 193 member states and two permanent observers meet to address pressing global issues. It's time to explore this iconic Manhattan and international landmark like never before.
Join New York Adventure Club for an exclusive, after-hours tour of the United Nations Headquarters, with a focus on the historic architecture and art throughout the General Assembly and Conference Building's most treasured spaces.
Led by one of the top docents at the United Nations, this intimate 20-person experience will include:
- The origin story of the UN Headquarters, from how it almost ended up being built in Philadelphia to its striking modernist design by a team of renowned architects including Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer
- A custom-made NY Adventure Club route through the United Nations, with stops at the UN Plaza, General Assembly Lobby, important meeting spaces, and more
- Special access to all three mains meeting rooms: Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber, Security Council Chamber, and General Assembly Hall
- An appreciation of the complex's modernist design and international style, which developed through the collaborative effort of 11 renowned architects from around the world
- A close look at several pieces from the UN's unique art collection, featuring the works of prominent artists such as Marc Chagall, Candido Portinari, Arnaldo Pomodoro, Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore
See you there!
*Please budget at least 45 minutes to enter the UN Headquarters, which includes [1] entering the visitors check-in office across the street (801 First Avenue), [2] an on-site security screening. The Visitor Check-in Office closes at 4:45pm — late arrivals will not be able to enter the UN after that time.
**If you plan to use the restrooms or visit the gift shop prior to the tour, we recommend starting the entry process 1 hour in advance — once the tour ends, guests will be asked to depart the premises.
***All visitors 18 years and older (and unaccompanied children 12 years and older) are required to bring a valid government-issued photo identification issued by a Member State or an Observer State of the United Nations.
****Please note that HVAC and elevators typically shut down at 6:00pm, requiring the tour group to take the stairs back down to the lobby.
*****While this tour is conducted after regular business hours to ensure full meeting room access, please note that an emergency UN meeting would render the Security Council Chamber, or other Chambers, inaccessible.
******Once registered, please carefully review the instructions in the order confirmation email — failure to do so might prevent you from being able to attend the experience
