About this Event
Have a great film idea but not sure how to present it to producers, collaborators, or funders? This in-person workshop focuses on everything but the script - the key pitching materials you need to communicate your vision and move your project forward.
Many writers feel pressure to jump straight into a screenplay, but in the early stages of development this isn’t always the most effective approach. Strong pitching materials - including a film treatment, logline, synopsis, and pitch deck - can help you clarify your story, define your voice, and make your project accessible to industry professionals. In many cases, these materials are what open doors: helping you attach producers, spark interest, and secure development funding before a full script is even written.
In this practical, hands-on session, we’ll break down the essential components of a professional pitch package and explore how each element works together to present a compelling, cohesive project. Through guided exercises and examples, you’ll learn how to articulate your story, characters, themes, and tone in ways that capture attention and build confidence in your idea.
We’ll also be joined by a development executive, a producer, and a script editor, who will review a case study project and share their professional insight into what they look for when evaluating early-stage materials. This is a valuable opportunity to understand how your work is read from an industry perspective - and what makes a project stand out.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a clearer understanding of the materials you need to develop, and you’ll begin shaping your own project into a strong, shareable pitch package.
What you’ll learn:
- What materials are included in a film pitch package (logline, synopsis, treatment, pitch deck)
- Why it’s not always best to start with the script - and what to develop first

- How to structure and write a compelling film treatment
- Techniques for crafting clear, engaging loglines and synopses
