Estia Centre's Learning Disability Week Learning Event

Being seen, heard and valued, a positive message created by people with a learning disability to build a movement of change.

A Learning Event for all health and social care staff and people with learning disabilities and their friends. At this event we will come together to celebrate and learn about learning disability. This in-person event will feature interactive workshops, presentatons and discussions about current thinking and best practice, and a chance to connect with others in the community. Whether you want to increase your understanding or share your experiences, this event is for you. Let's create a supportive and inclusive environment together!

Keynote from Heidi Crowter

Heidi will give a keynote about her life and campaign for the rights of people with Down's Syndrome. Heidi has campaigned with ‘Don’t Screen Us Out’ since 2016 about non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). Currently abortions are allowed up to birth for severe disabilities in the UK. In 2021, she took the Government to court to get this “downright discrimination” removed from the law. After losing the case at the High Court and the Court of Appeal, Heidi has now asked the Supreme Court for permission to appeal.
