About this Event
The Loneliness Crisis: What is Contributing to It and What Can We Do about it?
- Do you struggle with loneliness or do you know someone who struggles with loneliness and are unsure what to do about it to help yourself or others?
- Have you found ways to connect with the world in a satisfying way and have wisdom to share?
Join us for a two-part informative and interactive evening seminar and discussion led by Mary Thomson, Registered Social Worker and Psychotherapist.
We will talk together about things like:
- What loneliness is, how increasingly common it is (especially among younger people recently), what contributes to it, what are the physical and mental health costs of it, and how loneliness differs from isolation, solitude, and Social Anxiety
- What we can do to in order to help ourselves with loneliness and what can we offer lonely people
The Antidote to Loneliness is Social Connection so we will examine the barriers to social connection both in the world and inside ourselves, explore the current state of our relationships, then discuss strategies to find, build, and offer meaningful and “safe” connections to others
“Empathy has no script. There is no right way or wrong way to do it. It’s simply listening, holding space, withholding judgement. Emotionally connecting, and communicating that incredibly healing message of ‘you’re not alone.” – Brene Brown
